Couples and relationships…those that are close and those that aren’t.

I stopped by an old cemetery for a walk around in a light snow.

Almost immediately I was deeply struck by this juxtaposition of stones. I think I titled it even before I made the image….”Couples.”

I could not help but think of relationships…those that are close and those that aren’t.

I thought of marriages that work and in which intimacy and comfort grows, and I thought of those that drift apart, where the warmth flickers out.

Hence, again, “couples.”

As a closing note, not long after I made this one, all of the stones in the cemetery were straightened…yet another reminder to act upon one’s vision at once. Hesitate and it will be gone….one of the absolute primary rules in photography as in much of life.

Would that straightening out lives be so simple.
